We are embracing retirement, and making the most of it.

We knew we were never going to sit still for long, so whilst we are happy and healthy we will be out and about seeing the world………… full time.

We are out of the fast lane and taking the slow road ahead

Stunning West MacDonnell Ranges

The West MacDonnell Ranges spread west of Alice Springs for a few hundred kilometres.

The area is a green oasis in the middle of Australia, and mountain formations each side of the road are stunning.  We did half of the Inner Mereenie Loop as far as Gosse Bluff, and visited and camped at several of the gorges within the National Park, with Ormiston Gorge our favourite camp ground, stayed 3 nights here. Each gorge was different and awesome, a photographers delight. Water flow in the creeks was pretty much non existent, but the water holes were deep enough to swim.  They were also icy cold and welcomed. The crowds have all gone, just the odd traveller, mainly in 4wd campers, kids all back at school now.

Ormiston Ck Gorge

Glen Helen Gorge...Fink River (oldest river on earth)

We enjoyed early morning hikes, one was 9km, others much shorter, temps in the day started to increase to 39 degrees celsius today, so headed back to Alice Springs.  We could have easily stayed longer had it been cooler to do more activities.

Dolomite Walk, Ellery Ck

Up and over these rocky bluffs made of Heavitree Quartzite

The Pound Walk, Ormiston Gorge

The last 2km gruelling finish rock and boulder through the dry creek bed

Saw our first two wild Camels on the way to our first meteorite crater Gosse Bluff

We were parked inside the crater...looking down from the rim lookout

A cool change is due at the end of this coming week.
