We are embracing retirement, and making the most of it.

We knew we were never going to sit still for long, so whilst we are happy and healthy we will be out and about seeing the world………… full time.

We are out of the fast lane and taking the slow road ahead

Clearwater Lake Canoeing

We left the soaring Rocky Mountains behind, and tried to have a final glance at the Rockies highest mountain...Mt Robson, but the bush fire smoke was bad and we had to settle for our driver Taylor’s photo.

At Clearwater in the Wells Gray NP we met our guide Charlie who organised our camping equipment into dry bags and us into canoes for a 2 hour canoe trip up Clearwater Lake.  We barely rested along the way, and even though there was vey little wind against us, my left shoulder felt pinched with the paddling. Derek did very well, and will argue that he did all the work,  either way my arms did not stop paddling!  I was glad to stop and rest, but had to get our campsite set up first, before we could enjoy this beautiful and scenic lake, even though it was spoilt again by the smoke.

We had the best views of the Lake from our tent, and the little beach in front of us.

After supper, everything had to be locked in a Bear Cache as we had no bus this time. Alas, still no bear sightings.
Charlie said the bottom scratch markings would have to be made by “Wolverine”, way too exaggerated for a bear.

It was so peaceful, we all went to bed early (it was still a little light outside)  no-one was up for the usual candid trivia around the camp session, and slept very well. It was our last night of camping. Mixed feelings here, Derek was happy about that, but for me, hotels meant being further away from nature.

Next morning the smoke made it impossible to see the other side of the lake
And I wasn’t looking forward to the paddle back, but in just under 2 hours, we were back to loading the bus,

followed by a visit to two of Wells Gray NP’s 60 waterfalls, then a drive to 108 Mile Ranch in Cariboo Country which is actually a resort not a real ranch (108 Mile Ranch is the town.. bit dissapointed about that) for a nice shower and bed after a 4km search for a geocache and a bit of deer spotting.

View from Resort Carpark.... fire only 20 km away.

View from the back deck of the Resort
